Bhubaneswar, June 14: The state government has asked the Xavier University authorities to furnish details about the progress of their proposed institute.

In a letter to the varsity, the department of higher education has asked it to submit deadlines for completion of its phase-wise construction and starting various academic courses.

The department has asked if an administrative office of the varsity was functioning in Bhubaneswar, about the development of infrastructure on its campus and about the process of the formation of the board of governors.

The varsity is supposed to have its headquarters at Pipili and its administrative office in Bhubaneswar.

It is yet to announce the name of its chairman, vice-chancellor, deans and registrars.

The Xavier University Bill was passed in the Assembly on April 5 this year with a direction by the state government to make it functional within two years.

The bill made it mandatory for the institute to fill in half of their seats with students from the state.

The varsity is coming up on 35 acres in Kurki industrial estate at Nijigardh village near Pipili.

It will offer courses in engineering, humanities, social sciences, management, law, medical science, vocational education, tribal studies and development studies.
