Cuttack, July 5: Criminals had looted around Rs 5 lakh in two separate incidents in the city, police said today.
In one incident, three motorcycle-borne criminals looted around Rs 3 lakh from an employee of a courier service company near Pratapnagar under Sadar police limits.
The police said the incident had occurred at around 1pm, when two employees of Sriram Agency at Bhubaneswar were on their way to deposit the cash with a bank at Nayasarak. “Three youths in a motorcycle snatched the bag containing the cash after attacking me,” said injured Bijay Kumar (25).
Kumar has sustained severe injuries on his head and is undergoing treatment at S.C.B. Medical College and Hospital. Sources said Kumar had joined the TV and teleshopping-cum-courier company as a marketing agent six months ago. Kumar said he and another employee of the company, Akshay Rout, had left office at Rasulgarh at around 12 noon and were on their way to deposit the money with a trader at Nayasarak.
Kumar, who was riding pillion, was carrying the bag containing the cash on his shoulder. “First, the criminals intercepted us near the Toyota showroom in Pratapnagari and attacked me with sticks and later fled with the money,” Kumar said.
In another incident, goons allegedly looted around Rs 2 lakh from a person near Rajabagicha.
The incident took place in the afternoon when Ranjit Sen (30), an employee of a chartered accounting firm at Bangali Sahi, was returning after withdrawing the money from Badambadi Axis bank.
Two criminals intercepted Sen near Rajabagicha labour colony and later decamped with the money. A case had been registered and further investigation was on.
