Berhampur, Jan. 30: Two motorcycle-borne criminals snatched Rs 1.8 lakh from a businessman after shooting at him near Chandinia hills at Bada Bazar last evening.

The victim, Achyutananda Bishoyi, 24, is out of danger.

Police said the two attackers fired at Bishoyi when he was on the way to Berhampur from Gunthabandha on a motorcycle. He suffered bullet injuries and the goons took off with the cash, which was in the glove compartment of the motorcycle. “We are investigating the case,” said Anil Mahanty, inspector in charge of Bada Bazar police station. He added that the incident took place at a lonely stretch.

The victim, whose father is a wholesale fruit seller at Gunthabandha, was on his way to Berhampur. He is now being treated at MKCG hospital.

“One person told me that the police were checking cars at Gunthabandha on Dakhinpur Road. So I decided to take the deserted road,” he said.

“Suddenly, two unidentified youths came on a motorcycle and blocked my way. When I asked them to move away, they asked me for the money. When I refused to oblige, one of them shot at my left hand and I fell. They broke open the glove compartment and took off with the money,” he said.
