Berhampur, Dec. 24: Two robbers today looted Rs 12 lakh in cash from Jagan Kumar Sahu, an employee of a potato godown, when he was on his way to deposit the money at a bank.
The incident occurred this afternoon at Sandha Mahanty Sahi. Sahu was in a car.
“Both of them wore helmets and were waiting for me. They stopped the car and one of them broke the driver’s window and attacked him with a sharp weapon. Then he came to the other side where Jagan was sitting with the cash and threatened him with a pistol. He snatched away the bag with money and then both of them fled away towards Aska Road through Sandha Mahanty Sahi,” said Anil Mahanty, inspector in charge of Bada Bazar police station.
The driver, Bhima Behera, suffered serious injuries on his face and is being treated at the MKCG Hospital. “We has 15 stitches on his face. He is out of danger and is improving,” a doctor attending to him said. However Sahu escaped unhurt.
“Though the robbers first attempted to attack me with a sharp weapon, it slipped from the hand of the person holding it and fell inside the car. Then they threatened me with a pistol and snatched away the bag,” said Sahu.
“Two more youths in helmets were waiting on another motorcycle at a distance. All the four of them sped together after snatching the booty,” Sahu said.
“We have seized the sharp weapon from the car and are investigating the case,” Mahanty. Sub-divisional police officer of Berhampur Thakur Prasad Patra also visited the spot.
