Cuttack, Sept. 1: Investigations into the illegal liquor sale in the western parts of the city has led city police to suspect covert hand of the Dhal Samant brothers and one of their principal associates from within jail.

During a special drive since Wednesday, police had conducted raids in Nuabazar, Bidyadharpur and Chauliaganj and detected illegal sale of huge quantities of liquor 'by goons and liquor mafia'.

At Nuabazar, the raiding team from Chauliaganj police station found liquor being illegally sold in a building beside the canal embankment near Fish Market.

'A number of posters, banners, receipt books and big board in the name of Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangha were found in the building,' said assistant commissioner of police Trinath Mishra.

'The findings indicated that it was the office of the Cuttack Nagar Yuva Sangh of the Dhal Samant brothers and the office was managed by his principal associates and gangster Bhajana alias Sanjay Kumar Sahoo,' Mishra said.

Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangh was formed by Sushil Dhal Samant as a voluntary organisation in 2014. The Sangh had organised a massive blood donation camp on January 10, 2016. Several political leaders cutting across party lines were present at the event organised at Markatnagar.

Several posters of the blood-donation camp were found in the building during Wednesday's raid. The gangster siblings - Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samant - who were arrested on January 29, 2016 and charged with tender-fixing, extortion and arms trade, have since been in jail.
