Girls excel, pass rate declines

Cuttack, June 11: Girl students of Ravenshaw University have excelled in the undergraduate courses, the results of which were announced today.

Of the 1,557 students who had appeared in science, arts and commerce streams, 808 girls passed. Addressing a news conference, vice-chancellor B.C. Tripathy said 848 girls had taken the test, while 808 girls and 709 boys cleared the Plus Three examination.

The pass percentage of girl students has been registered at 95.62 per cent, while 92.94 per cent of the boys have cleared the test. Twenty-one girls have secured top positions in various streams, while four boys featured in the toppers’ list. Rashmirekha Sahu (physics), who has secured 1,699 marks out of 2,000, is the best graduate of the university. Namana Sukayna of information technology is the best graduate in the professional courses category. Namana has scored 1,767 marks out of 2,000.

“Girl students have performed well in the undergraduate courses. We are taking special initiatives to improve the quality of education at the premier educational institution,” said Tripathy.

A Ravenshaw University official said the overall pass percentage in science, arts and commerce had, however, registered a gradual decline this year. He said 95.58 per cent students had passed in science this year against 96 per cent last year.

Similarly, 92.79 per cent students have passed in arts against 91.71 per cent last year and 97.54 per cent students have passed in commerce against 98.05 per cent last year.
