Bhubaneswar, July 2: Two youths allegedly kidnapped a 16-year-old girl from near a well-known public school at Unit-VIII, police said today.
Though the incident took place on Monday, the girl’s father, who works with a public sector bank, lodged a complaint with the Nayapalli police station today.
He said his daughter was abducted by two motorcycle-borne youths when she came out of the school where she had gone to take admission in Class XI.
“My daughter had gone to the school on Monday with her mother to take admission. She came out of the school alone around 4pm to talk to some of her friends. When she did not return, her mother came out of the school and searched for her. However, she could not find her,” said the father.
Later, when the girl’s mother made inquiries around the school and spoke to some autorickshaw drivers present at the spot, they told her that two boys on a green motorcycle had taken her away forcibly.
“She had a mobile phone with her. But it has remained switched off since the incident took place. I suspect involvement of criminal behind kidnapping of my daughter,” said the girl’s father.
Commenting on the delay in the filing of police complaint, the father said the family was trying to trace her through friends and relatives. “When we failed, we decided to inform the police,” he said.
The police, however, suspect that the girl might have gone missing by design.
“She had lied to her parents that she had scored more than 90 per cent in her Class X exam. She was afraid that she would get caught during the admission process,” said a police official.
The police have registered a case and begun investigation.
“We are verifying the call details of the girl’s mobile phone,” said inspector in charge of Nayapalli police station K.C. Mund.
