Bhubaneswar, July 19: Fill your overhead tanks and finish your homework before the sun sets, for the Central Electricity Supply Utility (Cesu) has promised its daily dose of “darkness” for the city.

The public utility has decided to trip power for three hours daily for the next four to five days to meet the power shortage. The power cuts will start from tomorrow.

A senior Cesu official said that as there was a power crisis in the city, the power utility had decided to go for power cuts here to manage the crisis. At present, the city has a shortfall of around 500MW.

“We will effect power cuts for two hours in the day and one hour at night. The power cuts will be effected phase wise at various places in the city. We expect the crisis to be over in four to five days. We do not want people to suffer and expect them to co-operate,” said the officer.

Officials in Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited, which supplies electricity to different distributes in the state, said certain technical snags at power generation stations had caused the power crisis in the state. “As the rainy season has started we expect the situation to change in futurecuts,” said an official.
