Cuttack, April 8: Police today produced gangster brothers Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samant in the SDJM Court in connection with the nine fresh cases, including murder of Malgodown trader Md Farooq Tayab in 2014.
The gangster siblings and their six associates were also produced in connection with several other cases of extortion, forgery and fake currency smuggling.
However, the police have not filed any petition seeking further remand of the gangster brothers in any of the fresh cases.
Deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora said the gangster brothers and their associates were produced in court as part of a routine procedure.
"Our investigation in connection with the Malgodown based trader is still on and we hope to nab other criminals involved in the murder case soon," said Arora.
Both Sushil and Sushant, who were lodged separately in Balasore and Jharpada jails respectively, were brought to the SDJM court here amidst tight security arrangements today.
So far, 19 cases have been registered against the duo while the cops had earlier produced them in 11 cases since their arrest on January 29 at several occasions last month.
The gangster brothers will be again produced in the court via video-conferencing on April 12, official sources said.
Yesterday, the Cuttack district administration had cancelled the registration of Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangha, which was formed by Sushil.
Police sources said that Sushil had formed the Cuttack Nagar Yuvak Sangha to give shape to his political ambition while the organisation had shot to limelight after collecting 3,000 units of a blood from a single camp in January this year.
Several key members of the club, including BJD councillor Ranjita Biswal, have already been interrogated by police.
In another development, the district administration has also cancelled the licence of four sand mines issued in the names of three associates of the Dhal Samant brothers. Two sand mines are located in Barang, one at Cuttack Sadar and the other one is at Dampada in Banki.
