Bhubaneswar, Jan. 25: The otherwise dull winter has become interesting for students, thanks to the several schools that are holding fun camps for the children.

Sai International School's "SAI Netritva" has a number of activities lined up for the kids. The camp, which is open for students of Class VI and above, started on December 18 and will continue till February 29. Students can take part in it in the evening.

"The camp will train our students to manage time, observe keenly, overcome fear, selfishness and never feel disappointed in life and most importantly, how to inculcate leadership qualities. The activities include daring acts as well as fun sessions on singing, dancing and painting," said principal Harish Sanduja.

The activities organised at the camp include rope climbing, trekking, music and other group activities, apart from a campfire. "It is an awesome break from the overdose of television and video games and all of us are loving it. It's cold outside, but worth it," said 14-year-old Shatabdi.

"I wish there were more of these," said Prateeksha, 15.

Buxi Jagabandhu English Medium School organised a special camp for more than 1,000 students in association with National Youth Project. The camp, which was held from December 25 to December 29, had a host of activities, including art and craft, cultural events and inter-religious prayers.

DAV Chandrashekharpur also organised a similar camp for students.

"We are teaching self-defence techniques and yoga to our students. Our activities had begun in November itself and this time we had included the parents too for fun activities such as rangoli-making and a friendly cricket match," said Devendra Pati, a senior teacher of the school.

"It's a great opportunity for students to come together and unwind," he said.

Winter camps are also being planned by the National Service Scheme under the Council of Higher Secondary Education in various junior colleges of Odisha.
