Paradip, Dec. 12: A joint squad of police and excise personnel has unearthed a spurious fuel racket in Jagatsinghpur. The authorities have seized chemicals, lubricants and adulterated oil.

Acting on tip-off, raids were conducted at Bauriapalanda and Taradapada villages, where the fuel adulteration units operated. The adulterated fuel was in demand because it was cheaper, said Jagatsinghpur superintendent of police Satyabrata Bhoi.

One person was arrested and 7,500 litres of fuel and spurious lubricant oil were seized from these units. Kerosene constituted the main component of the spurious fuel. Some chemicals were being blended with kerosene, police said.

“It was an organised racket .We suspect PDS retailers and fuel-filling stations are involved in it,” Bhoi said.
