Bhubaneswar, April 18: The Odisha government has decided to produce 10 lakh skilled men and women in the next five years to meet the need for manpower demand for the upcoming industries in the state.
As part of this plan, the Odisha government has decided to train 50,000 girls in auxiliary nursing and paramedics during 2012-2017.
“There is a growing demand for skilled and semi-skilled workers in the health sector to match its high rate of growth which is at present around 12 per cent per annum. There is also a growing demand of home nursing for old people as well as young babies. Private hospitals and nursing homes are also in need of qualitative and trained auxiliary nursing mothers,” said an official.
Keeping these requirements in mind, Odisha chief secretary Bijay Patnaik has asked the State Employment Mission to develop modular employable skill training programmes to train the youth in this trade so as to enable them to grab various job opportunities both in public and private sectors.
The government has also set a target to train 50,000 youths in the fields of tourism, hospitality and management by 2017. “There is a growing demand for skilled workers in the fields of tourism, hospitality and hotel management. Unemployed youths can also find employment in sectors such as external hospitality, restaurant services, domestic services and food preparation services,” said an official.
Keeping in mind the massive ongoing construction activities because of the industrialisation process, it has been decided to train around 2 lakh youths in various operations related with construction.
“The construction sector has recorded a growth rate of more than 11 per cent. Apart from construction activities taken up by various government departments. The unemployed youth can also take the benefit of the growth in this sector,” said the official.
Other important sectors with employment potentials are textile, manufacturing, mining, information technology and enabled services, retail, telecom, banking, driving and security guards. “The State Employment Mission has drawn up a calendar of activities for achieving its skilled manpower production target. The Odisha government has asked us to identify and list out credible training partners to impart qualitative training with hands on practice,” said Usha Padhee, director State Employment Mission.
