Balasore, Sept. 7: Several villages of north Balasore went underwater as the Subarnarekha and Jalka rivers continued to flow above the danger level.
While the Subarnarekha was flowing at 11.3 metres at Rajghat against the danger level of 10.36 metres, the Jalka's water level was at 6 metres at Mathani against the danger mark of 5.5 metres.
The irrigation department's executive engineer Rajkishor Ghadai said: "The Subarnarekha is receding slowly. However, the low-lying areas of Bhograi and Baliapal have gone underwater."
At least 60 villages of Jaleswar, Baliapal and Basta got inundated., who visited the flood-hit areas,there has been rainfall in the upper catchment regions as well as in the plains. FIn a related development, a 56-year-old fisherman was feared to have drowned in the floodwater. Gobardhanpur villager Rabindra Nath went fishing and has been missing since then. Although, the fire brigade personnel made attempts to locate him, yet he remains untraced.
