Bhubaneswar: Deputy commissioner of police Anup Sahoo on Sunday took note of the escape of an accused from Capital Hospital on Saturday and directed the police stations concerned to keep strict vigil on the accused in police custody.
The accused - Prithviraj Guru alias Vicky - was arrested in connection with various crimes including murder. He was nabbed again on Saturday night after he fled from the hospital. Sahoo said that all the police stations have been asked to remain alert while taking the accused persons either to hospital or to court for medical examination.
"The police stations have been asked not to use any other vehicle expect the police van to take accused to the hospital and court. They have also been ask to constantly monitor the CCTV cameras installed in the police stations," said Sahoo.
Guru had requested the policemen accompanying him to Capital Hospital to let him use the toilet from where he managed to escape by breaking the window glass. In March 2016, six police personnel - including Khandagiri police station assistant sub-inspector Gourahari Mallick - were suspended for negligence in duty leading to the escape of criminal Shajan alias Patu from SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
