Bhubaneswar, April 16: A plane crash resulted in multi-storied building bursting into flames. Fire fighters rushed towards it with sky lifts trying to rescue the occupants.
9/11 being replayed in Bhubaneswar? No, this was part of a mock drill by the fire personnel at the fire training institute, Barmunda. The message was loud and clear that the capital city could face accidents of this kind anytime.
Though the 67th fire service day fell on April 14, the drill was held today so that chief minister, Naveen Patnaik could watch the proceedings . The fire service week celebrations would continue till April 20.
The fire-fighters displayed their skills putting out raging fires and rescuing people trapped in multi-storeyed buildings. They used a sky lift mounted on a hydraulic platform for the rescue operation besides ropes.
“Our cadets have been provided with advance training in fire fighting. They demonstrated how to put out fires and rescue people from high-rises mushrooming in the city,” said A. N Sethi, the principal of the institute.
Prior to the demonstration, the cadets performed a parade. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik addressing the cadets and the public said that the government had been planning to set fire stations in all the blocks of the state in next three years. “The fire service personnel will be provided with modern equipments and advanced fire fighting training,” said Naveen.
