A fire ravaged laboratory of Regional Medical Research Centre at Chanrasekharpur in Bhubaneswar on Friday.
Property worth Rs 1 crore was damaged in the fire that gutted the molecular and entomology laboratory. The fire was said to have been caused by a short circuit.
No one was injured in the incident.
An eyewitness said that as smoke started billowing out of the laboratory in the afternoon, the researchers present at the facility rushed out in panic.
“The fire spread and gutted research equipment. Air-conditioners and computers were also damaged,” said another eyewitness.
Fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames. “We entered the laboratory by breaking windows. It took more than one hour to control the fire,” said fire officer Jitendra Das.
