Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday directed officials to expedite the process for filling up government posts lying vacant in various departments.
Naveen issued the direction while reviewing the progress in filling up the vacancies.
It was revealed from the review that around 62,500 vacancies in various departments had been filed up during the past four years, and the recruitment examinations had been conducted by the Odisha Public Service Commission regularly since 2015.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress, Naveen asked the officials to send proposals by June to fill up 7,500 posts and complete the ongoing recruitment process by various agencies immediately to fill up the 19,000 vacant posts.
The state government has been drawing flak from Opposition parties over the growing unemployment of educated youths. Even the Congress and the BJP had caused uproar in the Assembly over the issue on the concluding day of the just-concluded budget session, forcing a series of adjournments.
Stung by frequent criticism from the Opposition, the chief minister has been regularly monitoring the progress in filling up the vacancies in various departments. He is reviewing the progress in this respect every month.
The government had earlier decided to conduct a special drive to fill up the vacant posts reserved for the SC and ST communities. The chief minister on Monday asked the concerned departments to send proposals to various recruitment agencies by June, said an official release issued by the chief minister's office.
Naveen advised the SC and ST development department to complete this special recruitment drive within six months and review the progress regularly. He also advised to complete the process for conduct of the Odisha Civil Service Examinations, 2017 and publication of results soon.
Besides, he asked the general administration department to send proposals to the Odisha Public Service Commission to publish advertisement by May 31 for the Odisha Civil Service Examination. He also asked to complete the recruitment process for the assistant section officer posts within six months.
