Sambalpur, May 31: The state government today sent the director of the technical education and training department to the sites identified for the proposed Indian Institute of Management (IIM), acting on the five-point poser of the Centre.

The state government needs to send its reply to the Centre on June 5.

The Union human resource and development ministry wants to know about the details of infrastructure available in Sambalpur, apart from the iconic business houses operating in the city, mega industrial units near the proposed IIM and the area's economic activities. It also wants to know about the facilities to be provided to the spouses and family members of the IIM employees. "We will study various aspects and prepare a report for the Centre," said technical education director Bishnu Prashad Sahoo.

"We will examine the feasibility of the locations, which have been identified for the permanent and temporary campuses. We will also have a conversation with local residents," Sahoo said.

Sub-collector Bimalendu Rai said the team would visit Brahmanipali, Basantpur near Goshala and Neeldungri to visit the sites, which have been identified for the permanent campus. Besides, it will also inspect some proposed sites for the temporary campus for the institute. These sites include the newly established Government Polytechnic campus at Rengali and the Sambalpur University Institute of Information Technology at Burla.

"A meeting has been scheduled at the revenue divisional commissioner's office tomorrow," said additional district magistrate Jyoti Kumar Lakra.

Earlier, the state government had recommended setting up the proposed IIM on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. But later it changed its mind and recommended Sambalpur.

The state government had also requested the Centre to send a team for the site selection for setting up of the premier B-school.
