Bhubaneswar, Aug. 11: A collection of silk and handloom products is on display at an exhibition being held at a city hotel.
These traditional fabrics have vibrant hues, bold patterns and delicate designs.
"I'm excited to see the variety in apparels, particularly of silk saris under one roof,'' said actress Lipsa Mishra, who inaugurated the exhibition.
The exhibition has 65 kiosks laden with hand block printed saris, baluchuri saris, Karnataka silk saris, chanderi silk, Banarasi, jamdani and kota saris among others.
Unique handloom saris from across the country such as pochampalli silk of Andhra Pradesh, muga silk from Assam, Madhubani of Bihar, saris with tribal work, kosa silk of Chhattisgarh, pathani and puna saris of Maharashtra, bomkai and Sambalpuri saris of Odisha and kosa silk of Jharkhand are also available.
"The saris are available in stunning prints on pure silk," said a seller from Bengal, Ayan Debnath. These prints include floral and other nature-inspired patterns as well as geometrical shapes and abstract images. "The collection of tussar saris mostly have tribal motifs in Santhal and Kondh painting style," he said.
Hastashilpi Artisans and Weavers' Welfare Association has organised the 10-day exhibition to give weavers a chance to sell their products directly to customers.
