Kendrapara, May 5: Police have arrested two persons and busted a spurious health drink-manufacturing racket.
Acting on tip-off, raids were conducted and spurious products of a popular glucose health drink manufacturer were seized from the fake units, said Kendrapara superintendent of police Rabi Naranyan Behera.
The racket was thrived in Derabish and Pattamundai.
The police seized packaged products that were spurious in nature. The packs carried the Glucon-D (orange flavour) brand name. These products are being marketed mainly in the rural areas of the district.
The arrested duo, Jiban Das and Umesh Patra, said they had been carrying out the illicit trade for the past one-and-a-half years. While Jiban operated from Pokhariapada village, Patra worked from Haladibasanta village under Derabish police station limits.
The police were searching for the masterminds of the racket. Even the health drink company’s officials could be involved and the matter was being thoroughly investigated, he said.
The police have requested people to be careful while buying glucose-based products from the market. They should immediately inform the police if they find anything fishy about the quality of the product. Shopkeepers have also been warned not to sell spurious products. The arrested persons were remanded in jail custody yesterday.
