Fair witnesses higher footfall and revenue this year

More than 1300 artisans and 165 self-help groups took part in the mela, in which craft work from 22 states across the country and the state have been displayed."From November 4 to 10, the mela did a business of around Rs11.20 crore. According to the trend of the past three days, it is expected that the yatra this year may exceed last year's total business," deputy director of Ormas Bipin Rout told The Telegraph on Saturday.Rout attributed the increase in business to the increase in number of kiosks from 352 to 386 at the mela and rise in sale of fast moving consumer goods (FMCGs). Besides, there was a marked increase in footfalls this year, he said.Last year, the business in the mela was around Rs13 crore with a daily footfall of about two lakh.
