Chess champs
Top-seed Priyanka Routaray of Sundargarh won the girls’ category of the state’s Under 13 Chess Championship on June 11. She gathered 6.5 points to win the top prize, while Miracle Panda finished in second place with six points. Bijayalaxmi Barik and Suhana Jena finished third and fourth respectively by scoring five points each. Mahitosh Dey claimed the title in the boys’ category with 6.5 points while Manish Kumar finished second. The top two players from the boys’ section and top four from the girls’ section will represent the state in the forthcoming national championship in Jalandhar, Punjab from June 21 to 29.
Basketball tourney
Mother’s Public School, Bhubaneswar, and Mother’s Basketball Club are hosting the Mother’s Basketball League from June 12 to 20. Altogether, 120 players from Khurda, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Ganjam took part in the selection camp from May 26 to 28. Around 96 players were selected and divided into eight teams to play in the league. The Dunkers, The Spartans, The Warriors and The Youngsters were placed in Pool A, while The Avengers, The Hoopers, The Strikers and the Wolverines are in Pool B.
JEE toppers
Thirteen students from DAV Public School, Pokhariput, have ranked in the JEE (Advanced) results. The successful students thanked their teachers and the school management for the success.
