Bhubaneswar, April 6: The Khurda district administration today launched an eviction drive at the Trahi Achyuta ashram, run by the controversial self-styled spiritual leader Surendra Mishra or Sura baba, to retrieve one acre of government land.
The team demolished a post office and a dispensary, which were built on the encroached land. The district administration officials said demolition was carried out in the presence of a platoon of policemen.
The ashram also has a dola mandap and pothi griha on the encroached land. Besides, a road and a dump yard on the government land will also be razed.
"The drive will continue till the buildings are completely demolished. The postal department had already shifted their office to a nearby village," said additional district magistrate, Bhubaneswar, Abanikanta Pattnaik.
No untoward incident was reported during the eviction drive.
Sura baba is at present lodged in a jail on several charges, including molestation and possession of firearms.
The township with more than 200 independent houses, mainly occupied by the baba's followers and devotees, had facilities such as bank, post office, dispensary, shops and store rooms to supply commodities to around 2,000 people for days together.
