Bhubaneswar, Oct. 6: The biggest stars of the Odia film industry will battle it out to win viewers with four films set to release this Dussehra.
Popular actors of the film industry - Sabyasachi Mishra, Barsha Priyadarshini and Archita Sahu - will be seen in the film Chhati Tale Ding Dong while heartthrobs Arindam Roy and Amlan Das are coming together in Tora Dine Ku Mora Dine.
As if this was not enough, Anubhav Mohanty and Jhilik Bhattacharjee-starrer emotional drama Baby and Love Pain Kuch Bhi Karega, featuring Babushan and Supriya Nayak will also be released during the festive period.
Each of these films promises to offer "something different" to the audience. The major attraction of the film Chhati Tale Ding Dong will be Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor, who plays a major role in it.
"His character is unique. We hope the people in Odisha will love watching him," said director of the film Mrutyunjay Sahu.
Babushan has turned a cricketer to woo the father of his lover in the film Love Pain Kuch Bhi Karega, which has been directed by Ashok Pati. "I have always been a laidback actor. But, in this film, I have put in a lot of hard work and physical efforts," said the 27-year-old actor.
Baby, directed by Murali Krishna, narrates the tale of a doting father who has to sacrifice a lot in his life for the well being of his daughter, while Tora Dine Ku Mora Dine, directed by Sudhanshu Mohan Sahoo, revolves around two childhood friends who turn enemies with time.
Film distributors believe that though producers cash in on the festive mood to release their films, the lack of decent cinemas in the state remains a big problem.
There are only around 80 theatres functioning in the state, including six in Cuttack and seven in Bhubaneswar, in which Odia films are released on a regular basis.
"Four films releasing during the same time is a big problem for us as we find it difficult to slot all of them. But Dussehra is also one of the most profitable seasons of the year. While the number of films produced over the years has increased, the number of halls has come down," said executive of 23-year-old Maharaja cinema hall Biswajit Mohapatra.
Sources in the film industry said that most halls would be showing Tora Dine Ku Mora Dine followed by Love Pain Kuch Bhi Karega.
At the city's only multiplex, Inox, Baby will have two shows a day while Love Pain Kuch Bhi Karega will have one. Chhati Tale Ding Dong will run at Maharaja.
"All the four films are being released by big banner production houses. So, the competition is going to be very tough," said film distributor Swagat Kar.
