Calcutta, June 25: The managing director of a television channel was arrested on Tuesday night for duping a production house of over Rs one lakh. Police said that Gautam Mazumdar, the managing director, of the channel, Om Bangla, was allegedly also involved in a chit fun scam in Odisha in April.
According to a complaint lodged by Pranab Banerjee, a producer, at Ballygunge police station, Mazumdar had allegedly asked him to produce a comedy show for the channel in 2012.
However, the show was put off air after a couple of episodes. Two cheques for Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 50,000, which were issued, had also bounced which prompted Banerjee to lodge a complaint.
A case was initiated against Mazumder on charges of fraud, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
According to officers of Ballygunge police station, prima facie investigation revealed that Mazumdar was also embroiled in a deposit mobilisation scheme in Balasore district of Odisha where investors had allegedly been duped and a case initiated against him.
“We have initiated an investigation and have also informed Odisha police about the case,” said an officer.
