Bhubaneswar, March 3: Kavita Mahakud, 28, who claims to be the daughter-in-law of Independent Champua legislator Sanatan Mahakud, today threatened to go for a DNA test to establish the paternity of her one-year-old daughter.
Kavita on Tuesday had filed a complaint with the Mahila police station here alleging harassment by the legislator over her alleged marriage with Pankaj, the elder son of Sanatan.
"If Pankaj does not accept me as his wife, I will be forced to seek a DNA test to establish the paternity of my daughter. I want recognition for my daughter and also want my husband to return to me. I never demanded financial help though they had attempted to settle the matter by offering money to me," Kavita said.
She also told that she would meet the chief minister if the legislator did not accept her as his daughter-in-law.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Mahila police station in Bhubaneswar had registered a case against Sanatan and his son-in-law Dinabandhu on the basis of a complaint filed by Kavita. She, however, refuted the reports that she had gone into hiding after filing the case.
"I have no intention to defame anyone. I want justice. I have been cooperating with the police. I had to be at home after filing the case as my daughter was sick," said Kavita.
On the other hand, Dinabandhu denied the allegations levelled against him and his father in law.
In another development, Debashish Mahakud, whom Kavita claims to have married earlier, contested her claim of having married the legislator's son.
"I have been trying to bring her home for the past two years. How can she marry another man without divorcing me?" said Debashish.
Kavita had earlier said that Pankaj knew about Debashish before getting married to her.
