Bhubaneswar, June 17: He had proven a couple of years ago that sci-fi thrillers can be created in the Oriya film industry even without whopping budgets.

Now, director Sanjay Nayak is back with his latest flick Baisi Pahache Kheliba Mina, again a blend of family drama and awe-inspiring digital artworks.

The cinematic excellence of this film genius has won him many prestigious awards and accolades.

From aliens in Keun Duniaru Asila Bandhu to apocalypse in this latest release, he is the only director in the Oriya film industry who has dared to experiment and mingle with audio-visual graphics, while others are still busy with age-old filmmaking techniques.

“My sole aim is to revolutionise Oriya films. For years the Oriya film audience have been dumped with mundane and monotonous films. My aim is to gift the audience meaningful yet entertaining and, most importantly, a different film,” said Nayak, who has always believed in making films with a difference.

Nayak has shown an inclination towards experimentation and now has around 25 films in his kitty in a span of just 10 years.

He made his directorial debut with Rakhi Bandhili Mo Rakhiba Mana in 2002, but it was with Mu Sapnara Saudagara that he shot into limelight.

After that there was no looking back for this versatile director.

But his journey to the top was not a smooth ride.

“My friends always wanted me to become an actor. But I realised that it was not easy to get an entry into this industry. Then I started assisting directors like Rabi Kinnagi, Avatar Singh, Basant Sahu, Pankaj Pani and others. After working with them for five to six years, I made my directorial debut in 2002,” he said.

No director in this industry has such popular and ingenious body of work as Nayak.

In each of his films, mostly commercial, he has brought about certain innovations and variations.

Apart from romance, drama, and action, his movies always have a surprise element in store for the audience.

“In Keun Duniare Asila Bandhu, I had introduced aliens to my audience. Despite constraints in the budget, we successfully made the film. It was one of my biggest achievements,” he said.

Talking about the financial conditions and the quality of films made here, the director is nothing but optimistic.

He feels that the industry is going through a transitional phase and it’s gradually learning the art of making sensible and good films.

He believes that this is the age of digital revolution, where films can be produced at a much lower cost.

“Now, this transition will bring about immense competition in the industry. Whether it would pull in the masses or not, only time will tell,” said Nayak.
