Cuttack, April 14: Police today arrested Arif Khan, 27, a sharpshooter working for the gangster siblings Sushant and Sushil Dhal Samant, for his alleged involvement in the Manoj Mallick alias Dipu and Om Prakash Swain murder case.
A special police team nabbed him in Madurai last evening. Police commissioner Y.B. Khurania said: "Preliminary investigation also points at Khan's complicity in the murder of Magodown-based trader Md Farooq Tayab in November 2014."
The accused had earlier worked as a driver with the Dhal Samant gang. Khan had won the trust of the gangster brothers by executing several crimes for them. After the kidnapping and murder of Dipu and Om in 2013, Khan had emerged as the most trusted sharpshooter for the gang.
The police have also seized Khan's fake identity card, created in the name of one Rajendra Behera. Several weapons and other documents were recovered from his Kalfa Bazar residence.
"Khan was present with the gangster brothers' right from the abduction Dipu and Om, their killing at a farm house in Athgarh and disposal of the bodies in Jharkhand," said Khurania.
Over six cases of extortion and attempt to murder have been registered against Khan during 2013-14. "Our investigation in the Farooq murder case is still open and we hope to arrest few more person involved in the case soon," said Khurania.
