Sambalpur, June 15: Residents here have demanded that a city bus service be started.
“The population in the city is increasing as is the city itself. So, there is a growing need for a public transport system,” said a Sarat Banji, a local resident.
People here are dependent on autorickshaws, which can prove to be quite expensive, said another resident.
“Several students from Hirakud and Burla have also taken admission in different educational institutions of Sambalpur. They also face problems,” said Kamalakshaya Pruseth, a student.
Contacted, road transport officer R.N. Sirkha said there was no proposal for starting a city bus service in Sambalpur. He said such plying of buses would lead to traffic jams.
