
Bhubaneswar: Around 300 final-year students of Xavier University, Bhubaneswar on Tuesday staged protest on the campus, alleging ambiguity over who would confer their management degree.
"There is a lot of confusion, and we don't know who will give us the final degree - XIMB or Xavier University. We do not have any clarity," said an agitating student.
They gheraoed the varsity's registrar office and shouted slogans.
Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB) is a private university established in accordance with the Xavier University Odisha Act, 2013. The Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB), a 30-year-old autonomous B-school of the Xavier University, is the flagship school of the faculty of management of the same university.The XUB has set up other schools of higher learning, such as the Xavier School of Human Resource Management, Xavier School of Rural Management, Xavier School of Sustainability, Xavier School of Commerce, Xavier School of Communications, Xavier School of Economics and the Xavier School of Computer Science and Engineering.
The university has also set up the Xavier Centre for Urban Management and Governance. Father E.A. Augustine, registrar of the varsity, however, said there was no ambiguity and the matter was clear. "They will get their degrees from the Xavier University. We will have a meeting with the students on Wednesday and talk to them on the issue," he said.
