Cuttack, Nov. 13: Police have beefed up security to ensure a peaceful immersion ceremony for Kali Puja tomorrow.

Keeping in mind the disputes between several puja committees in the past, over 55 police platoons have been deployed for the immersion ceremony.

"We have made elaborate security arrangements for the Kali Puja immersion ceremony and over 200 officers will be deployed to ensure that the festivities are completed without any untoward incident," said deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora.

This year, around 70 Kali Pujas have been organised in the city.

Arora added that over 30 closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras had been installed at nine locations on the traditional immersion route from Mangalabag to Devi Ghat via Buxi Bazar and Choudhry Bazar.

Senior officials said that around 40 aid posts would be set up to put a check on incidents of eve-teasing and thefts near puja pandals. The devotees, especially women, will be able to lodge complaints directly with the police at the aid posts. "We have already instructed our personnel to ensure that women devotees do not face any problems near pandals," said Arora.

Senior police officials said that a massive traffic arrangement had been put in place so as to ensure that regular traffic was not affected during the immersion ceremony.

"All routes connecting the traditional immersion route from Mangalabag to Devi Ghat will be out of bounds for commuters from noon tomorrow," said assistant commissioner of police (traffic) P.K. Dalai.
