Bhubaneswar, June 29: Police arrested another accused in the placement scam at Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University, bringing the number of arrests in the case to three.
The police arrested Vikash Lunayach, 34, from Gurgaon on Tuesday. Lunayach claimed that he held an MBA degree from Singhania University in Rajasthan and is the first official of the Delhi-based consultancy to be arrested in connection with the scam.
The police said the accused was in charge of co-ordinating with the varsity.
"The accused told us that he worked in the sales departments of various multinational companies after completing his MBA in 2008. However, he said that left his previous job after an accident in 2016 and joined the consultancy," said a police official.
Further investigation revealed that the accused had visited the varsity at least five times for the placement drive. "He attended the placement as an HR representative for five of the nine companies for which the consultancy selected more than 400 students," said the official. The cops arrested Raj Kumar Hota, the varsity's additional dean of placement, on May 26, and another accused Manas Ranjan Nayak on June 2.
Commissioner Y.B. Khurania said the accused would be brought under police remand to extract more information about the other members.
"He knew both the accused we have arrested so far. We have identified the other accused and will shortly nab them," he said.
