Bhubaneswar: Police on Wednesday issued an advisory to deal with the cases regarding the trend of trend of sharing nude and obscene photographs and sex clips, mostly of girls, on social media.
More than a dozen cases of the sharing of sex clips on social media have surfaced in various districts of the state in the past three months.
Director-general of police R.P. Sharma said a standard operating procedure had been issued to take up prompt investigation in such incidents.
"District police forces have been asked to take up such cases on priority basis and arrest the culprits. Besides the police superintendents have been asked to form special teams to crack such cases and prevent circulation of those clips. Stringent action will be taken against people defaming girls on social media," said Sharma.
The police also asked people not to capture photographs and videos of intimate moments, which will amount to voyeurism and can attract minimum imprisonment for one year, with a scope of extension of up to three years.
The police also cautioned people against circulating and publishing objectionable photos and videos, which will attract jail term for a period of five years, with a possibility of extending up to seven years.
