Cuttack: Police on Monday claimed investigation under the supervision of an assistant commissioner of police was closing in on the culprits behind the recent revenge murder of a 28-year-old man, two days before his wedding.
Nirjara Behera, a manager-accountant at a private school in Bhubaneswar was found hacked to death near the Birupa bridge on the morning of January 8.
Jagatpur police had registered a case after the deNirjara's father, Kamal Kumar Behera, lodged a complaint alleging it was a pre-planned murder.
Cuttack deputy commissioner of police Akhileswar Singh on Monday claimed that the investigating team had stumbled upon some definite leads and were working on them.
Three teams led by an assistant sub-inspector were investigating the case under the supervision of assistant commissioner of police Trinath Mishra.
"Three separate teams have gone to west Odisha, Calcutta and Bihar on the basis of the leads. If everything goes to plan, the main culprit and his associates will be nabbed within a day or two," Singh said.
Nirjara of Kapileswar in Choudwar police station limits worked as a manager-cum-accountant at a private school in Bhubaneswar. He was to get married on January 10. The bride was from Mandapada, which falls under the same police station.
Preliminary findings indicated that Nirjara had left home in a hurry after receiving a call around 9.30pm on Sunday and did not return.
The police suspect three persons were involved in the attack that killed Nirjara.
The investigating team has reportedly identified the persons and found revenge as the motive behind the murder.
Singh, however, did not disclose the details because the investigation was still on.
Sources said the police had got specific leads pointing to the murder for revenge while digging into the antecedents of Nirjara.
The police had questioned the members of the bride's family, and the victim's kin and office colleagues for clues to the murder.
