Deogarh: Police busted a fake note racket here on Tuesday.
The cops arrested five persons, including a CRPF man, and seized Rs 2.74 lakh in counterfeit notes, most of them in 500 and 2,000 denominations. A computer, printer, paper and chemicals were retrieved from them.
The arrested persons, Jhash Ketan Dehuri, 25, Pratap Behera, 22, CRPF-trained Sudana Biswal, 26, Sumnta Bhoi, 24, and Raj Kishore Sahu, 37, were booked 489(a), 489(b), 489(c), 498(d), 489(e), 420, 468, 471, 120(b) of the Indian Penal Code. The arrested accused are being interrogated. From preliminary investigations, it has been found that the fake note racket was being run by them in west Odisha districts.
"We are looking into all possible angles to ascertain the accused persons' possible link with subversive and anti-national elements. It is suspected that the arrested man might have nexus with fake currency racketeers of other states," said sub-divisional police officer Soloon Ekka.
