Bhubaneswar, Nov. 13: Vigilance sleuths today arrested Rajendra Mandal, the inspector in charge of Khandapada police station in Nayagarh district, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant.
Vigilance officials said Mandal has demanded the money from Patitapaban Sahoo in connection with a cheque bounce case.
Superintendent of police, Bhubaneswar division of vigilance, Basanta Kumar Panigrahi said Mandal had taken a bribe of Rs 10,000 from Sahoo on November 3. "On November 9, he again demanded Rs 10,000 from Sahoo. Sahoo then lodged a complaint with the vigilance," he said.
Mandal, however, alleged that inspector general (central range) R.P. Koche had pressurised him to register the Sahoo's complaint. "I have been framed. The complainant had approached the police four months ago alleging that a person We have also arrested the accused in this connection<>."
Koche, however, denied the allegation.
