Bhubaneswar, Aug. 26: The state government today admitted that lack of coordination between the line departments was delaying the creation of appropriate infrastructure for the city bus services in Bhubaneswar.
Housing and urban development minister Sarada Nayak said: “The city bus service was started nine months back, but work on infrastructure development such as identification of land, arranging finance and construction work has been delayed because of lack of coordination among the administrative departments and government agencies.”
The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), the works department and the general administration (GA) department are mainly responsible for the infrastructure development of the city bus services.
While the BDA and BMC function directly under the minister, the works and GA departments fall under chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
The state government has identified six places Pokhariput, Gadakana, Jadupur, Chandra Sekharpur, Ghatkia and Sikharchandi — for setting up bus terminals and bus depots.
It has also identified 55 places for setting up bus bays on six major routes of the state where city buses are operating. In the first phase, bus bays will be set up in 30 places.
Passenger sheds will be developed in 278 places of the city. The works department has been assigned the task to set up the passenger sheds and bus bays.
