Bhubaneswar, Jan. 7: Senior leaders of the Congress today began a two-day brainstorming session to revamp the party.
Newly appointed Pradesh Congress Committee president Prasad Harichandan and AICC general secretary B. K. Hariprasad interacted with leaders in groups to find out the reasons for the party's poor show in the previous elections.
The first session was attended by senior party leaders, including former chief ministers Giridhar Gamang and Hemananda Biswal, former Union ministers Srikant Jena, Chandrasekhar Sahu, Kanhu Charan Lenka and Bhakta Charan Das and all former PCC presidents barring J.B. Patnaik.
'All the senior leaders extended their support to the newly-appointed PCC president. They have taken a vow to work unitedly to make the party stronger and combat the challenges of both the BJD and the BJP,' said party spokesman Sarat Rout.
Rajya Sabha member Ranjib Biswal said the leaders had given their frank opinions on how to strengthen the party. A blueprint would be prepared based on the feedbacks.
Former chief minister Biswal said the leaders suggested to launch the party's agitation vigorously to expose the corruption and misdeeds ofboth the Naveen Patnaik government in the state and the Narendra Modi government at the Centre.
In the afternoon, the state president and AICC leaders interacted with party MLAs, headed by the legislature party leader Narasingha Mishra and deputy leader Chiranjib Biswal. Senior party legislator Tara Prasad Bahinipati said the legislature party expressed its support to Harichandan and discussed about the floor performance.
Tomorrow, all the district unit presidents and AICC members will meet.
