Bhubaneswar, Oct. 2: Visitors to Nandankanan Zoological Park will shortly be able to see one of the world's largest snakes with the zoo authorities planning to bring two yellow anacondas.
They have already started communications with Madras Crocodile Trust in this regard.
According to zoo officials, their initial plan was to bring both yellow and green anacondas but the trust did not have the adequate number of green anacondas.
"This is the first time that we will have the big snakes. They will be kept in special enclosures and will definitely attract visitors," an official said.
Visitors also said they were eagerly waiting the arrival of the big snake.
"So far, we have only seen them in movies and it will be delight to see them up close," said Niharika, a school student from the capital.
The zoo had received record footfall in 2015-16 with 33.19 lakh people, 14 per cent more than the previous year, coming to visit. Set up in 1960, the zoo currently has more than 2,700 animals belonging to 151 species.
In order to make the visitor experience more complete, the zoo has decided to install six drinking water points.
"Though we already have drinking water points, we will install six points with reverse osmosis technology to provide safe drinking water. We will also set up a baby care centre to enable tourists to breastfeed babies," said deputy director Jayant Dash.
