Bhubaneswar, May 25: Admissions to premier junior colleges of the state this year is going to be a cakewalk for most students.

With the goof-up of the state board results, the colleges are predicting a decrease in the cut-off marks.

While more than 7,000 students from the Board of Secondary Education had secured more than 90 per cent last year, this year barely 1,000 students have managed to acquire such a score, which will eventually lead to drop in the overall cut-off marks, educationists said.

The BJB Junior College, which is the most sought-after college in the state gets about 75 per cent students from the state board and the remaining seats are filled up by students from other boards.

“The cut-offs will almost remain the same for BJB College as we get the best students. Moreover, the number of first-class students is expected to have gone up after the re-evaluation. So we hope that there would be a very negligible change in the cut-off, if any,” said college principal Ramchandra Jena.

The BJB College authorities on Saturday had called a meeting to decide on the cut-off figures and smooth conduct of the admission procedure. The Plus Two admissions will begin from tomorrow. There are 1,400 junior colleges in the state with intake capacity of 3.5 lakh. Each student can apply in six colleges on a priority basis. Authorities said that cut-off list will be available on the higher education department’s website for students and parents to view.

However, the Board of Secondary Education is yet to provide the matric certificates to its students.

“I am tensed over the high cut-off of Ramadevi Women’s College. I wonder if I would get a seat with 80 per cent marks that I have scored. The college is for women only and is closer to my home, so I prefer it to any other,” said Debasmita Jena, a student.
