Cuttack, Sept. 27: Police will use social media in the twin cities to spread message about guidelines to follow important information to share during the festive season of Durga Puja.

The police will shortly issue an advisory of do's and don'ts as well as a detailed plan of the traffic arrangements to be made during the festive season on its official Facebook page.

The move will especially help pandal hoppers, who come to the twin cities from across the state. The pandal hoppers would get information in advance about road closures, one-way traffic system, and other festive-time traffic arrangements.

Deputy police commissioner Sanjeev Arora said that all the detailed information about the traffic and other crucial information would be uploaded on the Facebook page of Commissionerate police during the festive season this year.

Managing the traffic during Durga Puja is always challenging for the police as both Cuttack and Bhubaneswar witness a heavy turnout of pandal hoppers.

However, people will also be able to get information on traffic diversions by dialling traffic helpline No. 1095.

"We will update all information regarding the days when one-way traffic system would be imposed, diversions and other do's and don'ts that the people need to follow. We will also issue advisory on how people can keep themselves safe from goons," said Arora.

"Those who come to Cuttack for pandal hopping during Durga Puja are often caught in congestion and fail to find easy alternative routes to move out of the city. The online guidelines will help them immensely," said Siddheswar Sahu, a resident of Kanika Chhak.

Arora also said that more than 300 special police officers would be appointed to regulate the crowd and traffic near various Puja pandals in the twin cities.

Besides, 30 special police officers from minority communities will also be appointed for the first time this year to maintain communal harmony during the festivities.

Another senior police officer said that a detailed security arrangement was also being made to ensure a peaceful celebration of the Durga Puja in the twin cities. A number of measures have already been taken to resolve the border disputes between various puja committees in different parts of Cuttack. A special drive would also be launched to check the illegal sale of liquor during the Puja and the immersion ceremony with assistance of excise officials.
