Bhubaneswar, Aug. 30: Students should contribute towards nation building by developing new engineering concepts and quality products to solve problems of housing, food security and transportation.
National Board of Accreditation chairman Surendra Prasad made this appeal to the students while speaking at the fifth annual convocation of IIT Bhubaneswar here today. Prasad, chief guest of the event, is also the former director of IIT Delhi.
"While a good job can fetch you immense professional satisfaction, being part of the creation of new enterprises based on innovative products and services can be even more satisfying," he said.
"Traditionally, IIT graduates have strong credentials in entrepreneurship, and we are sure that you will create similar opportunities for yourself and for many others to bring in transformation. Efforts have to be made to make India the centre of this entrepreneurial revolution," he said.
"Many Silicon Valleys need to be replicated right here in our cities and small towns. While examples such as Flipkart demonstrate the possibilities, the need is to go beyond IT-based services to develop leadership in the core engineering products and businesses based on such products," said Prasad.
