Blossoms School students celebrate Grandparents' Day

Honour for students

Around 100 students who excelled in the mathematics talent search examination conducted by the National Institute of Mathematical Education and Research were felicitated at an event here. Director of Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai, R. Balasubhramanyam gave away the awards. He emphasised on eliminating the fear for mathematics from the minds of the children and asked teachers to take special efforts to help the students love the subject. About 10,000 students of classes III, IV and V from across the state had taken part in the exam.

Fun day out

Blossoms Kindergarten celebrated Grandparents' Day on October 1. To mark the event, pre-primary students presented dance and songs such as dadi amma and nani teri. Touraj Moghbelpur, founding manager of Blossoms, greeted the participants and spoke about the vital role the grandparents play in binding a family. Several creative activities such as clay modelling, memory game, poem recitation for the grandparents and the kids were arranged. Some of the elderly people shared their views. Among the grandparents were eminent writers Manoroma Biswal Mohapatra and Kanaklata Mohanty, physicians Bijay Senapati and Anjali Chhotray and entrepreneur Nikunj Chhotray.

Chess game

Young chess player Sumit Ojha from DAV Public School, Pokhariput, won the State School Open Chess Championship by scoring 6.5 points on September 2. Jagadish Kumar Ghadai, Tanmaya Kumar and Abrar Ahmad scored 5.5 points each and finished second, third and fourth respectively. Adarsh Anubhav, Aditya Nayak, Sujit Kumar Dash and Ashraya Das bagged top positions in the U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14 age groups.

Eco club

Eco Club students of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, staged a road show and rally wearing masks of endangered animals in order to sensitise people about the need to provide a safe and peaceful environment to animals at Nandankanan zoo, while commemorating the Wild Life Week. The students also enlightened the spectators regarding their protection in their own versions.

Teacher felicitated

Tata ClassEdge, a leading provider of innovative technology-based learning solutions for schools, announced Suprabina Das from DAV Public School, Pokhariput, as one of the 10 winners of the highly competitive #MyTeacher contest. She was selected on the basis of a note written by her student Sanchita Samant. Das won a tablet. The top 10 from the 1,100 entries were selected on the basis of creativity, emotional appeal of the content and the photographs that were sent with their teachers. The main motive was to encourage students to express their gratitude for their teachers and for teachers to know the important role they play in grooming the students.
