Cut-off list
Sambalpur: Gangadhar Meher University has published its first cut-off list for admission into postgraduation courses. Varsity registrar U.C. Pati said around 2,200 candidates had applied for the 490 seats in 18 postgraduation departments.
Sea barrier
Berhampur (PTI): Livelihood of around 30,000 fishermen in 12 villages of Ganjam district has been threatened due to a sandbar on the channel connecting the fishing jetty at Arjeepalli. A 300-metre-long and 100-metre-wide sandbar has come up in the channel connecting the jetty and sea near Gopalpur port. It poses a barrier for the fishermen, said B. Simadri, president of Fish Workers’ Union, Ganjam.
Police detain 2
Angul: Police on Sunday detained two BJP workers for protesting and waving black flags at excise minister Damodar Rout. Rout was here to attend the death anniversary of former minister A.P. Singh. The BJP workers claimed BJD supporters had beaten them, which the ruling party denied.
Maa Gruhas
Koraput: Three new maternity waiting homes would be set up in the most-vulnerable areas of Koraput district in a public-private partnership mode. The initiative aims to promote institutional deliveries and check maternal and infant mortality rates. At present, the district has eight such homes, called Maa Gruhas, for its 14 blocks, officials said.
Fish farm
Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to develop the government fish farm in Narayan Sagar in Angul district into a heritage site under the assistance of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.
Snakebite
Jajpur: A man and his grandson died of snakebite on Saturday at Mayatipur village within Jajpur Sadar police limits in Jajpur district. The deceased have been identified as Harihar Barik and Laxman Barik.
