Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik felicitated S.S. Lalita Prasida, who won an award under Google’s community impact category at the Google Science Fair in the US. She invented an eco-friendly water purifier that uses corn cobs instead of traditional purifiers. She had named it “low-cost bio absorbent”.    

Classes start

Bhubaneswar: Classes resumed in block grant schools across the state after a deadlock of one and a half months on Monday. The teachers’ body said all the agitating teachers who rejoined their duties would take additional classes to compensate for classes lostpreviously.

Gunfire injury

Berhampur: Notorious criminal Santosh Gouda alias Baya,25, was critically injured in a police encounter at Baradhangadi forest under Sorada police station in Ganjam on Monday. He sustained bullet injuries to the lower part of his right knee during a gunfire exchange. He was admitted to Sorada Hospital and later shifted to MKCG Hospital here.

Protest

Sambalpur: Members of All India Youth Federation and All India Students' Federation on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the office of the revenue divisional commissioner, northern division demanding filling up of vacant posts in government offices and educational institutions, development of agriculture and tourism, conservation of water, land, forest and mineral, making the inoperative industries and mines operational and employment for locals in the industries.
