IPS rejig
Bhubaneswar: The state government on Monday made a minor reshuffle in the IPS cadres of the state.
Sanjiv Panda has been appointed as inspector-general of Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP) while B. Radhika has been given the charge of additional director-general of the Crime Records Bureau.
S. Saini has been appointed as the new deputy inspector-general of the southwestern range.
High security
Bhubaneswar: Security has been beefed up on the secretariat, following a recent incident in which a young man attacked a woman employee in a fit of rage. The accused, Sushant Das, had carried a knife inside the secretariat without the knowledge of the cops.
Niramaya talk
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday held a review meeting on the Niramaya scheme. It has been decided that free medicines will be distributed for all diseases, including cancer, in all the state-run health facilities and
hospitals by August.
Road mishap
Kendrapara: At least seven persons, including children and women, were injured on Monday when a private passenger bus carrying them turned turtle at Malipur village on the Cuttack-Chandballi state highway.
Rail division
Balasore: The citizen committee has decided to step up pressure on the authorities for establishing a rail division in Balasore. Accordingly, it had decided to hold a meeting on Saturday to chalk out strategies.

Bhubaneswar: Cage fighter Shrikant stole the show at the state's first- ever Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition The Yoddha Fighting Championship held at Utkal Karate School.
BJP rally
Sambalpur: The members of the BJP on Monday organised a padayatra (rally) to protest against the mismanagement of the Brahma Paribartan of Lord Jagannath. The rally originated from the Berhampura temple and culminated in front of the office of the collector. They also staged a silent dharna in front of the office of the district collector.
Parade
Berhampur: The passing out parade of the 44th and 45th batch of the jail warders in the Jail Training School was conducted on Monday. Additional director general and the inspector general (prisons) Pradeep Kapur received the salutes. A total of 311 jail warders who passed out in two batches participated in the parade.
Bribe cuffs
Balasore: The inspector- in -charge of Energy police station was arrested on Monday after she was caught taking a bribe of Rs 2,000. The accused, Lilabati Mahanta, was taking the amount from Santanu Bag of Basta.
Sarpanch
Berhampur: The former sarpanch of Rajpur panchayat, Pitambar Gouda, was attacked by villagers and was admitted to Chatrapur Hospital. Villagers attacked him after he did not return the utensils of a Kali temple, which he took on
Saturday.
Fire mishap
Bhubaneswar: Five persons were critically injured after a gas cylinder burst at Athgarh in Cuttack. The injured are being treated at SCB Medical College and Hospital.
Jailed
Bhubaneswar: The Balasore district judge on Monday awarded life imprisonment to a 60-year-old for hacking a woman to death at a village in the district two years ago. The court also slapped a penalty of Rs 2,000 on the accused, Parikhita Dalei. Parikhita, a native of Gobindapur village, had killed Santana Dalei, 62, of the same village following an altercation over a minor issue on June 28, 2010.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Sahitya Academy is going to celebrate the birth centenary of Binode Kanungo, compiler of Jnan Mandal, a famous Odia encyclopedia. The celebration will commence from Wednesday at the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya.
