Assault on couple 

Balasore: Hema Singh, 45, was admitted to  Nilgiri Hospital after he and his 40-year-old wife Kuni were attacked by the residents of Salabani village, suspecting them of practising witchcraft. Kuni managed to flee and is missing.

Cuttack: Excise officials on Wednesday arrested Naresh Patra and Subal Das for their involvement in the unauthorised sale of country made liquor.

Worker dead 

Bhubaneswar: A construction worker died and six others were injured when the roof of an under construction building caved in near Hanspal on Tuesday night. The deceased has been identified as Jhuria Kaniari, 35, a native of Ganjam. 

Rape cuffs

Bhubaneswar: Two persons were detained for allegedly raping a physically challenged woman near the Jagannath Temple in Puri on Wednesday. Police said that a 25-year-old beggar was asleep on the footpath near the temple when two men allegedly outraged her modesty. 

Sahitya award

Bhubaneswar: The names of Sujit Kumar Panda and Snehalata Mohanty, both hailing from the state, were announced on Wednesday for the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar and the Bal Sahitya Puraskar, respectively. The awardees will receive Rs 50,000 each.  

Drug cuffs

Kenrapara: Kulamani Mohapatra, 76, was been arrested for allegedly peddling cannabis and opium from his residence at Kansara village in Kendrapara Sadar police limits.

BPUT event

Rourkela: The Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) is all set to hold an industry academia integration programme on June 26. The event will focus on four major topics - research and development, skill development, placement and entrepreneurship development, and expanding linkages.

Bhubaneswar: The Nalco and the Navratna PSU have signed a joint venture-cum-shareholders' agreement with the Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited, company promoted by the Gujarat government, for the establishment of an integrated caustic soda plant and a captive power plant at Dahej in Gujarat.
