Cop puts in papers
Baripada: The district police has received a resignation letter from Pradip Patnaik, the missing officer in charge of Jharpokharia police station on Tuesday. “An e-mail and a fax message have been received from him, stating his resignation from the police department, citing the ground of marital dispute. His location is not exactly known and he could be in Andhra Pradesh,” said Santosh Mishra, district intelligence bureau head.

Balasore: Town police on Tuesday arrested the district child protection officer Itishree Mohapatra and Sukanti Panda, director of Santawana Sudhara Gruha, a short stay home, in connection with the alleged sexual harassment of a minor girl.
Two killed
Berhampur: Two persons were killed and four others seriously injured when a speeding jeep hit an autorickshaw near Rambha in Ganjam. The autorickshaw was carrying passengers to Khallikote. The deceased were killed on the spot.
Bribe cuffs
Sambalpur: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested a data entry operator of Sabdega tehsil in Sundargarh district. Kanhu Hota was taken into custody for demanding a bribe of Rs 2,000 from Sankar Oram of Kaamdidhi village in Sundargarh district.
One shot dead
Cuttack: A businessman was shot dead on Tuesday over past rivalry at Bali market in the Gurudighatia police limits here. The deceased, identified as Kishore Mohanty, 35, was attacked by three criminals, who escaped after firing two rounds at him around 9am.
Family members alleged that Mohanty, who had been into coal trading, was killed over past rivalry, and based on the complaint, a case has been registered and further investigation is on, said Gurudas Kundu, superintendent of police (Cuttack rural).
Teachers’ post
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday directed to constitute a teachers' recruitment board to fill up the vacant faculty posts within the next four years.
The decision was taken during the review of school and mass education department. Naveen also directed the concerned authorities to complete all the modalities and submit a report in this regard within a month’s time.
Sunstroke toll
Bhubaneswar: Alleged number of death due to sunstroke in the state has increased to 174 while 46 are cases under enquiry.
Among all the 30 districts, Ganjam has maximum number of reported deaths due to sunstroke.
