Naveen missive
Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday directed the officials to expedite the identification of beneficiaries to ensure timely implementation of National Food Security Act. Applications from more than 1.05 crore people have been received so far, out of which 96.86 lakh have been digitised.
Cong slams BJD
Bhubaneswar: The Congress on Tuesday criticised the BJD government in the state for its silence over the Union government's neglect of Odisha. It also flayed the BJP-led government at the Centre for its tall claims and efforts to mislead the people about the release of central assistance to the state.
Jaundice
Bhubaneswar: Health minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak on Tuesday asked officials to take immediate steps to control spread of jaundice in Puri. According to reports, since January, 332 people have been affected in Puri and one has died. The state government has initiated a house-wise survey to know the condition of drinking water. With the Nabakalebar rituals on, the officials were asked to take action so that things are fine ahead of the festival.
Electrocution
Cuttack: Two persons died and two others sustained injuries after being electrocuted at Bamphkud under Sadar police station jurisdiction on Tuesday.
Village visit
Bhubaneswar: Officials of the Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board, including the president, Tejeswar Parida, made a four-day trip to the remote villages of Subarnapur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur and Phulbani to develop the clusters that are dependent on handicrafts and handlooms for their livelihood.
Couple death
Sambalpur: Police recovered bodies of a couple from their house at Bandhpali under the Burla police station jurisdiction on Tuesday. The deceased have been
identified as Chitta Ranjan Naik, 51, and his wife Pushpakanti Naik, 49.
Trauma care
Bhubaneswar: In order to provide treatment to trauma patients at every health-care centre, the state government has started a training programme for doctors by collaborating with experts from AIIMS. The centres at three medical colleges, Capital Hospital and those in Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Khurda and Rourkela will be upgraded for this purpose.
Cleanliness
Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway has organised anti-mosquito, cleanliness and sanitation drives at different places to mark the railway passengers and customers’ fortnight being held from May 26 to June 9.
Courses
Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to introduce vocational courses at Plus Two and Plus Three level. All the courses will be introduced from this academic year. In the first phase, 12 courses will be introduced for Plus Two and 10 for Plus Three.
Accident
Balasore: One person died and five were injured after a bus and a truck collided on NH-5 on Monday night. The deceased have been identified as Sukumar Pradhan from Katisahi village.
