Quota hike 

Bhubaneswar: The reservation quota of Scheduled Caste students in institutions of higher education including Plus Two and degree courses has been raised from eight per cent to 16.25 per cent. The reservation of Scheduled Tribe candidates has also been hiked from 12 per cent to 22.5 per cent. This will be implemented from this academic year.

Cash snatch

Bhubaneswar: A youth was nabbed by commuters while he was trying to escape after snatching cash from a stationary car at Unit IV in Bhubaneswar. The accused, Anant Sahu, was nabbed after he snatched Rs 12,000 from the car of Suresh Purohit.  

New role 

Bhubaneswar: Former Odisha chief secretary Bijay Patnaik on Wednesday joined Vedanta group as the president of its university project. Recently, Patnaik had resigned as a member of Odisha Human Rights Commission.

Two detained

Cuttack: Police have formed two special squads to nab the killers of Ganesh Rout, a contractor who was earlier hacked to death near Link road area on Monday. 

The police have detained two persons in connection with the killing and are interrogating them.
